Chestergate allotments celebrated “Grow Healthier Soil, Healthier Food, Healthier Wildlife” during National Allotments Week 2023 on Saturday 12th August. At our “Get Together” hardy allotment holders braved the rain and wind and discussed various ways of achieving a healthy living soil for growing vegetables and flowers. All agreed that without Bisley Community Composting Scheme’s free availability of unseived compost used for mulching the soil the “No-Dig” approach to gardening was virtually impossible or very expensive. Moral of the tale? Every community and certainly every allotment its should have a community composting scheme.
